SIRACUSA FULL DAY CITY TOUR
Visit the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, a natural area rich in archaeological finds belonging to different periods in the history of Syracuse, such as the Greek Theater, the Ear of Dionysius and the Roman Amphitheater. Visit the island of Ortigia, the historic center of Syracuse, which since 2005 has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique charm due to the remains of ancient Greek temples, the Maniace castle, the baroque churches, the noble palaces and the incredible cathedral that overlooks the main square. During a long walk through the alleys of Ortigia, we will admire the famous painting by Caravaggio entitled “Burial of Saint Lucia” dedicated to the patron saint of the city and we will stop in a company that works on plants of papyrus whose existence in this area of Sicily dates back to the Greeks. The tour continues with the discovery of the Ortigia underground. We will visit an ancient medieval public wash house and, exploring the Giudecca of Ortigia, we will go down in the basement of the neighborhood to observe a crypt built in 1700, an anti-aircraft shelter used during the Second World War, and one of the existing Jewish baths, employed between the fourteenth and fifteenth century, for the rites of purification of women in the Jewish community.
